I got my Sandisk Extreme “60MB/s” today and decided to compare it to my old Sandisk Extreme IV. Other reviews suggested that the new Extreme would be outperformed by an old Extreme III on D300s, but they didn’t mention the performance on D300.
Quality: RAW, Lossless Compressed
NR and D-Lighting switched off.
I filled the buffer, started the stopwatch and stopped it when the “bufferometer” showed r17. I repeated this sequence six times with each card. Three runs with the same scene and three runs with the lens cap on for absolute accuracy regarding filesize.
Time it took to empty the buffer in seconds:
Extreme IV 4GB:
Cap off:
7.9
8.5
8.0
Cap on:
5.5
5.9
5.7
Extreme “60MB/s” 16GB:
Cap off:
7.0
8.8
8.0
Cap on:
6.9
6.4
6.6
Conclusion:
It seems like the new Extreme “60MB/s” is about 15% slower than the IV with the cap on (totally black images), but with a real world example (cap off) they are equally good. It may be that the IV is better at smaller file sizes. I’m happy with the result and will keep my Extreme “60MB/s”.
